Taylor Guitar left in cold for 4 hours after purchasing. Could this have done damage to the guitar?
Troy C asked:
Purchased a new Taylor 114ce guitar and like an idiot left it in the car for about 4 hours while we did some shopping. It was cold enough to snow outside, and I'm just wondering if I've done any damage to the Guitar. I took it out of the case when I got home and wiped it down, which i've now learned was the wrong thing to do. Am I just overreacting or could I possibly have done some damage?

I don’t think so

I think heat would have been worse….but either way the damage if any is done….
I would ask someone at a shop, if none appear her, to answer whether it was structurally damaged
A good rule of thumb when going from either is to open the case and by that I mean just unlatching it…and let it acclimate slowly to the change in temp..
I did just the opposite once with a Les Paul….left it sitting outside in the Texas heat and opened the case and watched the checkering of the finish and a fogging in one area….I was sick….didn’t affect the playability but ruined the finish.
sorry you had to learn the hard way like I did

i really wouldent worry about it unless it was below zero or something like that.. i really cant be sure, but since its new and every thing i think it will be fine, now if it were a old guitar i may be worried..
if you are really really worried, see if you can return the guitar for a nother of the same model. tell them something like i think i got a bad one, cus my buddy has the same guitar and his sounds much much better..

The cold temperature in and of itself probably had little affect on your guitar. However, extended exposure to low humidity in the cold weather may cause a problem. Take a look at Taylor’s Tech Sheets (and some of their other resources) to familiarize yourself with humidity and its’ impact on your guitar.
