If the used one has a wired guitar and costs less than 45 dollars, get the used. Wireless seem to break easier.

If you’re the type of person who will play the game just once from start to finish, then take the risk on the used item. However, Guitar Hero is the kind of game most people go back to over and over again. With a new Guitar Hero III box you get the assurance that the guitar will function properly, and any damage will be done by your own outrageous axe grinding, not a previous owner’s. Also, with the new box come a set of decals you can use to customize your guitar. So if you’re going to rock-out over and over, or work your way into the extreme difficulty level, go with the new system. You’ll be glad you did.

Usually when something has been sold at Gamestop used, it is broken. Sometimes the wireless connection on a wireless control doesn’t work, so you would probably have a safe bet with getting a new disc and regular Guitar Hero control with a wire.
